When should I see a Myotherapist?

You should see a Myotherapist if you experience:

  • Pain or discomfort in an area of your body
  • Acute muscle,ligament, tendon injury
  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Stiffness or reduced range of movement
  • Muscle weakness or change in balance
  • Reduced energy levels or difficulty sleeping

Therapy is aimed at relieving myofascial pain – pain or dysfunction that is caused by muscle or fascia, using a combination of deep tissue massage, cupping, dry needling and stretch therapy. This commonly presents as specific tight spots in the body known as trigger points.

Myofascial pain is described by the patient as a ‘deep ache’, lightness’ or tenderness’ in an area. Myofascial pain symptoms can vary in intensity and may radiate to another areas. Reduced range of motion of musdes/joints and the feeling of stiffness, fatigue, weakness, numbness or a tingling sensation are common.

What should I expect from Myotherapy treatment?

Our Myotherapist will take a medical history according to your presenting complaint and assess your posture, range of movement, apply physical tests and use palpation of muscle and soft tissue to help identify the most likely cause of your pain or injury.

The problem areas will be discussed as well as what treatment our therapist recommends, making sure you are comfortable and happy every step of the way.

Our Myotherapies use a number of different techniques and treatment modalities. The most common myotherapy technique used are:

  • Deep tissue massage: breaks down adhesion and increase blood flow
  • Trigger point therapy: for alleviation of abnormal muscle contraction (lightness’) called trigger points Cknots’).
  • Myofascial therapy: for improving flexibility and mobility of the muscle and fascial unit.
  • Friction: reducing adhesions between fascial layers, muscles and the like. Frictions also promote healing in tendon pathologies as well decreasing pain perception.
  • Myofascial dry needling:  Dry’ Needling is a form of therapy adapted from Acupuncture where fine needles are placed in selected myofacial trigger points to promote healing and desensitize pain referral
  • Cupping Therpay: Cupping, originated from China and Egypt involving the use of suction cups to stimulate blood flow to a particular areas of soft tissue that dramatically reduces pain.
